Our Program
At Faith Lutheran Church, we have developed a new ministry to serve families in crisis. We have converted our parsonage house into a Hospitality House that short term housing from a few weeks to 18 months.
A team from Faith Lutheran Church has been working on the house for some time and they are getting closer to completion. The Hospitality House will offer the opportunity to help families in the most extreme need a chance to rebuild with the loving support of a Christian community.
This house will be a permanent fixture in the community that will offer short term support to families in need. The house has 5 bedrooms and sits on a large lot with a community garden.
Meet Our First Family
We are getting ready to welcome our first family. They are a family of 3 adults and 4 children. David C. (41) is a COVID survivor, the COVID destroyed his lungs. To continue living he would need to move to Chicago for a year to have a double lung transplant. What added more difficulties for the family to find housing was the fact that he is now disabled. His wife Paige is legally blind and one of their daughters is disabled. Finding housing was impossible until Faith opened their ministry to the family.
On April 15th, the family made the 5 1/2 hour trip from Southern Illinois to a hotel in Chicago. Two days after the family moved into their hotel for a month, David was put on the transplant list. After 2 failed matches and five days after arriving to Chicago, David and Paige received the call to come to the hospital and be prepped for surgery. By the next morning, David was in the ICU with a new set of lungs.
After 3 1/2 months of unanticipated delays and many prayers, God in his perfect timing moved many barriers that were preventing the opening of the Hospitality House. Last week Thursday, we received all the permits so we can do the plumbing, electrical work, and bring everything up to code. Once that is done, we can close the walls and install the new kitchen cabinets, pave the driveway and complete some other small repairs.
Once construction work is done, we will need to thoroughly clean, remove all the dust. and then move in the furniture and the household items that make a house a warm and inviting home.
